What to Know Before Enrolling Your Children in a Ski School: 5 Essential Tips for Parents

Planning to send your child to a children’s ski school? Whether you’re preparing for your family ski holiday or just want your child to learn to ski safely and confidently, knowing what to expect in advance can make all the difference.

Children are the heart of our ski school. Because of our separate practice areas and our specially trained children’s instructors, our little guests can learn to ski safely and with a lot of fun. In the “Pitzipark” (children aged 3-4) take their first steps on skis, and in the “Bergpark” our juniors (from 5 years) celebrate their first successes.

Here are 5 helpful tips on what you should pay attention to before attending a ski school for your children.

1) Choose the Right Skill Level – Don’t Overwhelm Your Child

We know that it is essential for parents that their children learn to ski as quickly as possible. Of course, that is also our aim, but pushing them into an advanced ski group too early can lead to frustration and fear. Please note that especially children who have already taken a ski course need some time to get used to it after a long break.

Always start with a realistic ski ability level based on your child’s current skills. If you’re unsure, use our Skiing Ability Levels Guide available on our website. If a participant of a group is over- or under-challenged, our ski instructors will send them to a suitable group for the child. Being overwhelmed is counterproductive and breeds fear. Eliminating this fear and regaining confidence takes a very long time. In addition, it is always more pleasant for children to be promoted to a better group because they are too good. A downgrade, on the other hand, hurts the self-confidence of the child.

2) Inform Us About Health Conditions and Allergies

Please make sure to notify our staff about any illnesses, allergies, or medical needs your child has. Whether it’s food allergies or other health concerns, sharing this information helps us ensure a safe, comfortable ski school experience.

3) Dress for the Weather – Ski Clothing and Equipment Tips

Proper children’s ski clothing is essential. You should always adjust this to the weather and temperature. To ensure that your child has a lot of fun during the ski course, make sure that they are not too cold in cold conditions and not too hot in warmer temperatures.

Make sure your child wears:

  • A ski helmet (mandatory)
  • Ski goggles or sunglasses
  • Multiple layers appropriate to the weather
  • Sunscreen for sun and wind protection

YouIf you don’t have equipment, you can rent skis, boots, and helmets from local sports shops at the Hochzeiger ski area. Here, your children will receive the equipment appropriate to their ability and age. If you already have your own equipment, you can use this. If you have equipment borrowed from your friends, we strongly recommend checking it at a sports shop beforehand. You must adapt the ski bindings, especially, to the children’s weight and ability to prevent injuries!

4) Provide Emergency Contact Information

It is crucial that parents or other relatives give us their mobile number so we can contact them. Regardless of whether your child is in pain, suddenly becomes ill, or, in the worst case, is involved in an accident (hopefully not), only with your mobile number we can inform you as soon as possible. A short phone call often solves most problems.

5) Clarify Pickup Arrangements

To ensure your child’s safety, please inform the instructor who will be picking them up after the ski lesson. Children will only be released to parents or authorized persons unless otherwise arranged. If your child is allowed to go back to the hotel or ski bus alone, let us know in advance.
